In the early 1950s Rolex released the "oyster Royal" model, another clean and reliable wrist watch. It is fitted in an 32mm Oyster stainless steel screw-down case, which was a novel design ensuring water-tightness beyond what was previously possible. Thanks to the downward sloping wide-set polished bezel, this Rolex wears larger on the wrist than its diameter might indicate. The now-famous Oyster case was first introduced in 1926, and it has evolved to become one of the most identifiable watch designs in history.
